Blogs Allow Students to Stretch Creativity

Well the first week of back to school madness and chaos is drawing to a close. I found that my students reacted positively to the idea of a class blog. They like the idea of interactivity, something creative (an antidote to what they say have been many ‘anti-creative’ dry assignments over the years). They feel the blog will give them a chance to stretch their ability to express themselves in ways they used to cherish (i.e. before the structure of writing etc. and the rules of the game were imposed on them). This was a sad conversation in a way; to hear so many journalism students speak of their feelings of ‘passionless’ days and ‘lost sense of purpose.’

The blog idea caught on so well that when I introduced the idea in class as a possibility most leapt on it immediately.
